No sé cuantos de ustedes conocen la serie de dibujos animados de Pinky y Cerebro. Pero voy a utilizar la célebre frase inmersa en la trama de esa serie animada, que se dice en cada uno de los capítulos cuando Pinky pregunta, ¿Qué vamos a hacer hoy Cerebro? Y Cerebro responde, “Lo mismo que hacemos cada día… ¡Tratar de conquistar al Mundo!”. Una respuesta cómicamente efímera, pero con una profundidad ingobernable de sentimientos, anhelos, deseos, metas o propósitos a desarrollar en la vida.
Después de que Elida obtuvo el trabajo, la dueña del lugar le asigno una habitación en su casa. La puerta de la habitación estaba construida con paletas de madera y se podía ver a través de ella el interior de la misma. El espacio era muy reducido, apenas si cabía un catre de metal con un viejo colchón de paja. La habitación era oscura y fría como una remembranza de lo que Elida llevaba adentro de su cuerpo.
A la edad de 7 años me gustaba correr en el patio trasero de la casa de mis padres, donde había muchos árboles de gran tamaño. A mi padre le gustaba sembrar árboles frutales y cosechar hortalizas. Recuerdo perfectamente que al final del patio había un árbol de jocotes, uno de marañón, uno de guayabas y allí también estaba mi árbol preferido, el más alto e imponente árbol de mangos que mis ojos de niño disfrutaban observar; cuyas ramas albergaban algunas enredaderas de güisquil, de loroco y de pashte (luffa o estropajo).

Every year in the month of October, we Hispanics, we venture to remember and celebrate our roots and places of origin.
